HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Established in the year 1985 by the Govt. of U.P. for exclusive development of Small Hydro Electric Power in the state of Uttar Pradesh (including the entire area now under the new state of Uttarnachal.)
Completion of its first Small Hydro Power Station Kotabagh (200 KW) in district Nainital in the year 1989-1990
 
  •  Completed 11 SHPs with installed capacity of 16.25 MW.
  •  Construction in hand for another 11 SHPs projects of 30.70 MW in hills and 3 SHPs 9.60 MW in plains.
  •  Electricity sale to UPSEB from its SHPs, up form 0.16 MU in 1990-1991 to 24.0 MU in 1998-1999.
  •  Electrification of villages in remote hilly areas and supply of electricity form SHPs these villages.
  •  Promotion of private sector participation in the development of SHP.
 
Reform of power sector in the state on 14.1.00 effected disbanding of UPSEB and simultaneous restructing/ reorganisation of UPJVN, when all hydroelectric power stations and projects of erstwhile UPSEB were brought under the control of UPJVN widening scope of its activities beyond the limits of SHP.
